Interesting question the other day, posed by a friend wondering if Warrior was an outmoded patriarchal archetype, or an aspect of the Divine Masculine. Here’s my take….
Discipline, Courage, Focus, Persistence, Training, Readiness, Action…these are all the hallmarks of a warrior…and none of them need involve fighting or harming others.
I am in a phase of life where I am incorporating more of my Divine Masculine energy as defined by these ‘Warrior’ attributes. In my younger days, my masculine aspect was much more warlike, as I left my ‘good girl’ persona and got friendly with cursing and confrontation and power…and women’s liberation. With decades of experience and maturity this has been balanced with a deepened and deliciously-embraced Divine Feminine aspect thus creating space for the return of the Divine Masculine energies.
I am striving to literally embody and incorporate these qualities. Sacred Embodiment to me is a harmonizing of Divine Feminine and Masculine aspects and energies. I’m working on living my Inner Divine Warrior….and all of my other shadow parts of self brought to light and grace.
The archetypes, like Warrior, are helpful in leading us back to lost aspects of self that have been shunned and banished to the shadows early in our lives. However, once discovered they must be invited to join us by the fire and enter the discussion, to add their energy and their particular and unique take on things.
For me, and I think for millions of women, our ease of nurturing others and being receptive and softly loving, must at some point be balanced and harmonized with a righteous Sacred Selfishness, recognizing and honoring the essential nature of need fulfillment, and taking decisive and at times, even unpopular action when necessary to embody our values.
I find that it is very often true that those qualities cited at the beginning of this article: Discipline, Courage, Focus, Persistence, Training, Readiness, Action have in fact, been called into service in our caring, supporting, and caretaking of others, but not necessarily of ourselves. The balancing and harmonizing begin to occur when we recognize the need for applying these just as wholeheartedly to our own dreams, needs, vulnerabilities, and worth as a person.
I want my Inner Divine Warrior acting on my behalf, reminding me that the battle, if any, is in refusing my comfort zone, turning away from unbalanced other-directedness, and in placing value as strictly on myself and my needs, as I have my loved ones and their needs.
What do you think? Do you have an Inner Warrior that has been brought out into the open? Do you think this is an archaic male energy about war? Or something more?

Hi Jan,
Totally agree!!! Of course! I am very much in tune with the concept of the reintegration of all aspects of ourself in order to be one truly whole person. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Thanks so much for commenting here, Ken. I love my own and my clients’ shadow work for the richness and the opening to more and more of the riches within it offers. I have always been very drawn to Jung’s work and Shadow work in particular. Like an intricate puzzle with, as you say, the whole person as the final discovery. ~Jan

Hi Janice
I can totally relate to the need for our warrior part and for both masculine and feminine energies.
I am a doer, an organiser and a giver and I have to be reminded A LOT to care for myself.
Thank you for being you. X x

Hi Ann
Balancing the energies can really enrich our lives and put us in touch with missing parts of ourselves. Self Care is a tricky habit to get embedded for some women…and men, but so worth the effort. Index cards on the bathroom mirrors could help reminding.
